Quick snaps taken on the windy patio at the Bell Lightbox overlooking the entertainment district in Toronto after some amazing Thai food at Khao San Road (ideal for all situations, and not just for when I'm helplessly hungover). The amount of time that I talk about food here is sort of ridiculous. To the point where I'm sure anyone bothering to read this will walk away with the impression that I do little more than sit around, complain about the weather and daydream about food/shoes.

Another week or two before my Canon hopefully gets mailed back to me. It's sad how much I've become attached to it. Well, to all forms of technology for that matter. It's a sort of love-hate dysfunctional relationship. As in I show my gadgets that I care by treating them haphazardly, while they show me how much they hate me by breaking down more often than what would be considered normal.

I manged to sneak in some photos as the sun rose before wrapping myself up in a down parka (this is Canada after all and a silk shirtdress is not conducive to keep warm) and hopping into the car to write a 4-hour mock exam that I did absolutely no review for. Which is why it was strange that the test still managed to make me feel so mentally drained for the rest of the day. That, or it may be because I'm feeling slightly under the weather from a lack of little sleep over the past week. Will be sipping on tea and studying for the remainder of the weekend.

Also (because I know he's reading this), I got some outrageously thoughtful and amaaaahzing gifts from my Secret Santa at last night's holiday soiree that I will be sharing soon.

Is everyone sick to death of these shoes yet? I honestly thought that I had gotten over the blocky, insane platform Lita fad until I finally tried on a pair and realized why they are so loved. Much to my surprise, these are probably more comfortable than my more sensible heels. Anyway, I'll save you the boredom and torture of having to read about another blogger raving about how amazing these shoes are. I'm sure y'all are cringing just having to see them again.

My last day of work before my "vacation" (its technically a faux-cation as I'm expected to be studying at least 8 hours a day for two weeks) is tomorrow. And while that should signal confetti and loud dance music, I've been put on a form of academic probation, the whole concept of which is so totally foreign to me. This is all a roundabout way of saying that yes, its going to officially be the holidays but in reality I will be burying my head in three binders full of multiple choice questions. Try not to be too envious.

Merry Christmas!

Eat well, drink well and spend it with those who make you happy. I will be wrapping the gifts that I picked up last minute today in a scramble around town with Love Actually (a holiday tradition) in the background. Cheers!

Mackage Chloe-S parka

Last night's snowfall in Toronto officially signaled that winter is upon us, which means that this parka will hardly leave my sight for the next few months. I've fallen into a bad habit of ordering a new coat every year but if it means that I could sell my previous one I usually rationalize my need for it. This one was a gift from my parents for Christmas and I am so thankful for its down-filled warmth and giant hood that keeps out the chill.

It's almost time to ring in the New Year - I'll be doing something low-key because my schedule sadly affords me little time away from studying. 2011 has been a major transition year and I'm highly anticipating the new stories that 2012 will inevitably bring!

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

I find that I procrastinate in the strangest ways. This time around I've nearly finished re-watching (for probably the third time) the entire Arrested Development series aka my favourite dysfunctional family. 24 hours before the big exam and so far all I've done is make kimchi instant noodles and impulsively order a pair of ankle boots from Aldo.

It's a beyond freezing -16°C in Toronto so bundle up - today is a function over aesthetic day.

The past few days have been a haze of events - waking up Saturday morning having traded my Blackberry for a case of food poisoning that left me alternating between the bed and toilet for an entire day. I'm still recovering and winning a little bit each day. If you consider being able to eat increasing amounts of solid food each day a "win". Hope you all had a better weekend than I!

4. Balenciaga (a present to myself for passing one of three major exams this year)
5. Re-organizing my bathroom with a mason jar from Vienna
6. A good luck charm from Shanghai from a co-worker. Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

How is it February already? Describing the past few weeks as busy would be an understatement. I've never appreciated the weekend or sleeping in as much as I do now. Currently wearing my non-office uniform featuring one of my favourite buys of the past few months: this Old Navy waffle sweater. $12 well spent.

Been counterbalancing the exhaustion from work by ordering too many things online. My parents are starting to question why there are so many packages arriving for me lately.

Lazy Sunday catching up on two weeks worth of TV shows. Channing Tatum on SNL actually made me laugh harder than a lot of the recent guests. Not that that means that I'll start watching any of his sappy films but at least its nice to know that he's got more comedic and acting range than his roles let on.

Currently smitten with this printed dress - so many patterns and colours fighting with each other and yet it somehow comes together. Who said that fashion can't be a bit poetic?

The temperature is dropping and I'm sick with a cold playing Scramble with Friends amidst a sea of tissues. Thank goodness for this coat from UniQueen - the high collar keeps out the chill and the thick material keeps me toasty during my commute. I've been wearing this and the soft beige top regularly to work for the past two weeks - great staples with a modern twist!

Also, I've been noticing that my ombre'd ends have been fading. Deciding between retouching or just finally getting a major haircut - thoughts?

UniQueen blouse, Old Navy cardigan, Wilfred coat, Topshop shorts, Aldo boots, Michael Kors watch

Another great basic with a fun twist from UniQueen. As convoluted as the word "juxtaposition" is, this really is an amicable combination of classic and wild (because we all know too much sparkles left alone will only be horrifyingly referred to as "Ke$ha-chic"). Wore this to dim sum last weekend with my now favourite Wilfred cocoon coat. Its the perfect shade of camel and surprisingly warm. This was my third coat this winter. And I say, "was" because I ended up buying another one two weeks later. I seriously have a weakness for jackets even when I can't justify another one. At least its basically winter 5/12 months here in Toronto *halfhearted cheer*

On a sort of related note (re: classy sparkly blouse), I've basically been marathoning Downton Abbey for the past two weekends. I love me some uptight British sass. If you're in the dark about this show, this Andy Samburg narrated SNL promo pretty much sums it up.

Zara top, Mackage jacket, H&M x Marni pants, Chloe heels, Ray-Ban glasses, Michael Kors watch

I'm alive! Something about this record-breaking warm weather is making me feel exponentially more energetic. And these light silk patterned pants from the H&M x Marni collaboration so perfectly fit the rising temperature. These were one of two items that I ended up keeping after I braved the lines before work. The launch coincided perfectly with my birthday so I kind of had to make a point to treat myself to something. Especially with the 60-70 hour work weeks that I've pulled recently.

And back I go to reading A Game of Thrones with the windows wide open. How excited are you for season two?! Not that I'll have read the second book by April 1 but regardless I'm pumped for some HBO fantasy epic goodness.

I can't afford Givenchy so here is the next best thing. Finally got a significant hair-cut after 4 years. You know its bad when the girl has to get down on her knees to cut your hair. I feel like I'm writing in Tweets (i.e. short and rambling) and I'm not sure why. First day off in two weeks and it feels ah-mah-zing.

Colourblockin' done easy with this multi-hued wonder from Sugarlips. In an outfit that is more wishful thinking than reality. Although it looks gorgeous outside these days, to brave the Spring winds in shorts is a bit premature. Hope you all had a splendid Easter long weekend - you deserved it!

Club Monaco silk dress and sweatshirt, Balenciaga bag, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, F21 necklace, Michael Kors watch

Oh right, I have a blog. These days I seem to be either taking photos, forgetting them and then letting them fester away in my memory card or running late somewhere with no time to put my watch on, let alone snap a few shots. I promise to be better at this!

This is what I wore to go have high tea for the first time in Toronto. I suppose a sweatshirt is high-tea-appropriate if it has some sparkles on it. Although after that experience I've realized that although its all nice and fun to be super girly and nibble on macarons and cucumber sandwiches, it still feels a little foreign to me. Especially when all I seem to want to do these days is find a nice patio to sit and drink on. It seems at times as though I'm torn between putting on something full of pleats and ruffles and wanting to gag over the same details. What's a "former" tomboy to do?

Keep it simple. Maybe one of the reasons why I keep getting sick is because I dress for the temperature that I wish it were instead of the cold reality. Sunlight can seriously be deceiving.
